Tempted

Let talk about temptation.  Big temptations and little temptations.  You know, tempted to cheat, steal, lie, drink, drugs, sex, all the big ones.  But let's not forget the little temptations either: hit the snooze rather than read your devotions, one more piece of cake, peeking at the website, spreading one little rumor that you think is probably true.  Temptations come in all forms and at all times.  There is nothing that Satan will  not try in order to cause you to sin.  Sometimes it seems unfair that a perfect and all powerful God would allow us to be tempted and then get angry when we give in to that temptation.  If only God knew what it was like to be tempted.

But he does!  Read Matthew 4:1-11 and Hebrews 4:14-16.  You see, God does know what it is like to be tempted because Jesus Christ was tempted.  He was tempted to bow to Satan, to use his power for Satan.  Jesus does not leave us alone during times of temptation.  In fact, he gives us a way out each time if we look for it.  Temptations can destroy our relationships with others and with Jesus.  But temptations can also transform our lives and those around us if we give in to Jesus Christ and allow him to bring us through those times of temptation.

As you think about temptation, what is yours?  I like to eat and so one of my temptations is to eat just one more little bite which turns into a lot of little bites.  What are those temptations, both big and small, that cause you to fall?

Keep trying,

Matt
