Jesus is Coming...

Jesus says to us,
"Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God; trust also in me.  In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going."  John 14:1-4

The season before us is called advent - The arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.  The weeks leading up to the day we celebrate the well-known "holiday", Christmas. is a time of waiting.  Year after year we take time and soak in the spirit of advent; we surround ourselves in reflecting upon the greatest gift of all - Jesus Christ - our Savior - the "notable person or event".  I, personally, love this time of year.

​As a church, we have been reading The Story - diving into God's Word, starting at the very beginning.  It soon becomes clear that God's plan, His Story, is one written for me - written for you.  (Sorry, here comes the English teacher coming out in me :)) God's Word is a story.  His Story has a theme - it has a plot - many characters - settings - there's conflict and resolution - there are rising actions, climaxes, falling actions - Genre?  Well, some may say it seems like fantasy; but, it's actually nonfiction - true, not made up.  Indeed, the Bible has every element of a story.

But this story is different.  Not only is it true, but it reveals to us what our Creator - the Creator of the universe had, has and does have in mind for us - for you and for me.  The characters are real - every day folks like us.  The events are full of meaning and purpose.  Everything happened and happens and will happen according to God's plan.  Truly, His Word, from the very beginning to the very end, points to Him; points to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

Throughout history, people were told by God that the Messiah was coming.  They knew He was "on His way".  Oh, how they longed for Him.  God led them and directed them into obedience and focus every time they veered off the path.  Time and time again, they needed reminded to turn to God.  As I reflect on all that occurred during their season of "advent", as they waited for the coming of someone notable to enter their scene, I am reminded of how to, or should I rather say, how not to wait.

During the next several weeks, I invite you to join me as I seek God's voice to walk us through a time of advent, reflecting on how those who longed for their Savior to come, and examining our hearts, minds and souls, as we wait for that same Savior to come again - once and for all.
