The Creation

Genesis 2:7 – The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into His nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

There’s probably nothing worse than Christmas morning, as a child, opening up one of the most spectacular gifts, and dad works and works at assembling all the parts, and it’s finally all put together, but then, those words on the box are remembered, “batteries not included”!  You search the house, even becoming desperate enough to take the batteries out of something else – but come up with nothing!  The spectacular gift gets set aside in the corner because it’s the batteries that bring it to life!

Consider what it must have been like on that 6th day of creation.  The Trinity, with all their excited creative juices flowing, decided to make something in their own image – something spectacular – something even more amazing than the previous days’ creations.  They grabbed some dust from the ground and formed it into something similar to their image and likeness.  Maybe after all the details were assembled, and man was formed, they looked around at each other and wondered, “Who brought the batteries?”  Ok – well it didn’t go down like that, but listen to what did happen…Read this slowly, letting it sink in to every part of who you are…   “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”  Genesis 2:7

No batteries needed!  We “work”; we live because the very breath of our Creator was breathed into us!  This is not some science fiction tale – this is the very essence of the creation of mankind!  Take just a moment and take 5 deep breaths, and consider the source of life within you.

What a powerful, what a humble, what a fulfilling realization it is, that the Author of all creation, chose to hand make something like Him, and chose to bring it to life by His very breath, and call it YOU.  This thought alone should display how valuable you are to your Creator, and bring a smile to your heart, or perhaps a tear of overwhelming worth!  You are not here by mistake.  Just as Days 1-6 were filled with intentional, orderly and purposeful acts of creation, God still is in the business of creating.  His hand was at work from the moment you were formed in your mother’s womb – no matter the surrounding circumstances.  Consider carefully these words found in Psalm 139:13-17  For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  How precious to me are your thoughts, God!

There was a moment when the Triumphant Trinity conferred and it was unanimous, the decision was made, the assembly was complete, and they breathed life into their new beautiful creation – YOU!  You are part of His plan.  You were made in His image.  As you consider the spectacular gift and creation you are, ask yourself this question, are you sitting aside, in the corner, as though you have no batteries, no life, no breath, or are you functioning as a creation, made alive by the very breath of God?

Isaiah 42:5 says, “This is what God the Lord says – He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it…”  He looks upon His creation in you and says, "You are very good!"

Be still for a moment taking deep breaths – in and out - and allow God’s Spirit to breathe His words into you.  Allow Him to validate and affirm His creation in YOU.  Write down words you sense He uses to describe you.  Can you identify yourself as having a meaning and purpose that are found in the power of your Creator?
